Hi Friend,

Have you seen the news this morning? A new Essential Poll commissioned by the Guardian Newspaper has dropped. The left is ahead of the National/ACT bloc.

Labour/Greens/Māori Party have 55 seats while National/ACT can only muster 54. Compared to the other recent polls, it confirms that the trend is not good for those who know New Zealand needs a change of Government (and direction). It is yet another poll that has Winston Peters holding the balance of power and shows that Saturday’s result is likely to be a nail-biter. This poll means that Labour is likely to be in a stronger position to do a deal with NZ First.

This result would be a disaster for New Zealand. As I told Newshub Nation last weekend – there is no sugar-coating that New Zealand is in fiscal shtook: Government spending is already up 68% since 2017, our debt has more than doubled, and the poor quality of spending is alarming.

New Zealand’s cost of living crisis has been driven by a cost of government crisis. Grant Robertson’s wasteful spending has led to the economic wrecking balls of high inflation and high interest rates – the very matters I had to take tough decisions on when I was Minister of Finance.

Right now, New Zealand can cannot afford another drawn out MMP-style Winston Peters bidding war between the two large parties.

The International Monetary Fund recently looked at our prospects for economic growth among 160 counties. We were 159th! It’s time our political leaders got real.

Friend, I can attest that the team at the Taxpayers’ Union are working every hour of the day to secure a victory for taxpayers – highlighting the Government’s undemocratic ‘co-governance’ policies, wasteful spending, and soaring debt. With this shock poll result, I’ve just wired them an additional donation to help fuel the last few days of the campaign.

I really do think this is one of the most important elections in my lifetime in terms of New Zealand’s prosperity for my kids and grandkids. Will you join me in chipping-in to the fight today? <[link removed]>

P.S. This election is going down to the wire, but New Zealand cannot afford three more years of high taxes, high inflation, high debt and poor-quality public services. We desperately need a change of direction. Join me in supporting the <[link removed]>Taxpayers' Union to hold those responsible to account. <[link removed]>
