John,

I am horrified and saddened by the attacks in Israel, and the pain, fear, and collective trauma our Jewish community is feeling. I stand with Israel and all affected by this violence.

I grieve for the women and young children living in fear, falling asleep through tears. I grieve for the pain of everyone mourning the silence from their families and friends overseas, unsure if they will ever hear their voices again.

It was deeply moving to attend the beautiful vigil hosted by the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles at Stephen Wise Temple on Sunday evening. It was touching to see members of our community gather to grieve and pray together for the people of Israel and all affected.

I pray that there is still a pathway to peace and stability in the region. And I send all of my heart to everyone grieving right now.
