Get Your Biscuits in the Oven: The Domestic Side of Life at Starr Family Home [ [link removed] ]

Ever wonder what a working kitchen from the 1880s would have looked like, what recipes might have been used, and who might have prepared them? Join us as we visit Starr Family Home State Historic Site? [ [link removed] ]for a step back in time. We?ll learn about the restoration of the Maplecroft kitchen (which took the room from a more modern-day style back to a full working 1880s kitchen), learn about the lives of the domestic staff, and browse some authentic 1880s recipes! Join site manager Barbara Judkins for this fun foodways event.

O Tannenbaum: German-Texan Holiday Traditions [ [link removed] ]

From decorations and customs to food and music, German heritage has had a powerful influence on holiday traditions throughout Texas. These traditions come to life each December during "Trail of Lights" at Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill State Historic Sites [ [link removed] ] in La Grange, Texas. Thousands of visitors pass through the historic Kreische House where displays and living history interpreters share the German influence behind holiday dinners, the Tannenbaum (Christmas tree), Victorian ornaments and decorations, gift giving, Santa Claus, and more. During this virtual presentation, sites staff will bring the historic holiday traditions of the Kreische House to the modern displays of your computer screen, including a demonstration from the Kreische kitchen where costumed staff will prepare kinderpunsch, a spiced warm beverage popularly served at Christmas markets and German homes during the winter.

A Bush Family Holiday [ [link removed] ]

It?s a Bush Family Holiday at Bush Family Home State Historic Site [ [link removed] ]. Join site manager Troy Gray as he introduces us to the house that boasts two presidents, two governors, and a first lady (with another first lady having lived not too far away). We?ll hear stories of the family?s time in the home and learn about why the Bush family came to West Texas, the story of Robin Bush, and the childhood of George W. Bush, whose boyhood bedroom can be seen at the site. We?ll also take a look at some special photos of Bush family Christmases past.
