John,
Earlier this year, Kevin McCarthy crawled through FIFTEEN humiliating rounds of voting to get the job as Speaker of the House – which he only won after groveling and giving away countless concessions to far-right extremists in his party.
Then on Tuesday, he made history by becoming the first Speaker to lose that job by a House vote rather than an election.
But before you feel too sad for Kevin McCarthy, let’s remember that he voted to overturn the 2020 election. He stood by the insurrectionists on January 6. And he’s amplified every MAGA conspiracy, including the sham impeachment inquiry into President Biden.
The only reason eight Republicans voted with Democrats to remove him from his position of power is that he successfully delayed a government shutdown at the 11th hour without giving them every single thing they wanted.
That is how little they care about us regular folks – the people who would be impacted if the shutdown happened, who would be cut off from Medicaid or Social Security or be furloughed from our jobs.
Kevin McCarthy didn’t get the boot for being a bad Republican. He was punished for doing right by his constituents for once – for having just enough sanity and morality to avoid a government shutdown.
And even after all of that? McCarthy went on TV to blame the shutdown threat on DEMOCRATS, insisting that he didn’t need or want their votes to save his job.
Republicans won’t stop showing us what they stand for: chaos, dysfunction, and prioritizing power over people.
We were running out of time to keep the government open when McCarthy stepped up, and we’re still running out of time to reach a new deal before the next shutdown threat only 40 days from now.
Already the interim speaker is making headlines for kicking Nancy Pelosi and other members of Democratic leadership out of their offices, and far-right Republicans like Marjorie Taylor Greene are pushing for DONALD TRUMP as the next House Speaker.
The American people don’t have time to play the House GOP’s version of Guess Who? or any other games they come up with.
I’m running for Congress to FLIP this seat, to give Democrats a majority in the House, to end this seemingly never-ending dysfunction, and make our government WORK again. Can you pitch in right now to help me take back our district from Mike Simpson and get the House back on track?
