Friends,

This week the House was able to avoid a government shutdown by passing a temporary funding resolution. The legislation keeps the government funded at existing levels through Nov. 17, allowing Congress more time to reach an agreement for funding the full year.

I sat down with the Washington Examiner to highlight the progress made in the Task Force to Combat Mexican Drug Cartels, and also continued to advocate for life-saving psychedelic-assisted therapy trials for our service members suffering from PTSD or TBI. Until now, Congress has failed to focus on both of these issues. I'm honored to be leading the fight in both combatting the Mexican drug cartels, and advocating for the treatments our service members deserve.

Sincerely,

Inside Dan Crenshaw’s Cartel Task Force, Where 'Kill or Capture' is End Goal

Image

The Mexican drug cartels are the #1 threat to America today, killing 80,000 Americans a year with deadly fentanyl overdoses. Speaker McCarthy established the Cartel Task Force to develop legislation to stop them, and tasked me to lead the bipartisan effort.

Since the task force formation in July, we’ve been briefed by the President of Ecuador, former Attorney General Bill Barr, former Acting Homeland Secretary Chad Wolf, experts from Customs and Border Protection, Drug Enforcement Agency, and Homeland Security Investigations.

Later this year we will travel to Colombia and get a better understanding of what lessons can be learned from 30 years of close security cooperation with the United States that helped bring the country back from the brink of collapse.

In November, we will take the task force to Mexico City.

Until now, Congress has failed to focus on this issue. While many government agencies battle the cartel problem every day, there is no strategy or direction from the White House or Congress. We aim to change that. Read more about our efforts here.

This Is Why Mexico Needs to Let Us Help Them Defeat The Mexican Drug Cartels

Image

We are ready to work with the Mexican government to defeat the drug cartels once and for all — they’re our common enemy. We have the tools & resources to stop their control over large swaths of Mexico, including the border. We just need a partner who will work with us. To be clear, this doesn’t mean we invade Mexico — we want our military to work with the Mexican military to take the fight to the cartels. We have partnerships like this all over the world, but we especially need it in Mexico. They’re our nextdoor neighbor, and the country that should be our strongest ally. Let us help you to strengthen and protect BOTH of our countries and people.

My Thoughts On How We Almost Had A Government Shutdown

Image

So here’s the deal with what happened last week. Every year we have to fund the government, or it shuts down. You’re supposed to do it with 12 appropriations bills but Congress almost never gets them done on time. There’s a bunch of reasons for that, but mostly it’s because democracy is messy and people just can’t agree. So to buy more time for negotiations we almost always pass temporary funding bills to keep government open. 90% of Republicans decided we should only continue temporary funding if we also added border security into it. It was a hardline demand that would put the focus on fixing the border. It’s what we promised our voters we would do, even if it brought us close to a government shutdown. But 21 Republicans sided with Democrats to kill our leverage. Many of those same Republicans are telling you that it’s everyone else’s fault, that they’re the RINOs. The 90% of Republicans that took the hardline on border security, plus a 30% CUT in spending, are the RINOs? Make that make sense. Make them explain how their strategy gives us more conservative wins. It won’t.

My Amendment To The Defense Appropriations Act

Image

Last week, my amendment to the Defense Appropriations Act was adopted by a voice vote. The amendment requires a report on potential Pentagon-Veterans Affairs collaboration for psychedelic-assisted therapy clinical trials. Over the last couple years I’ve heard incredible testimonies from veterans who have turned to psychedelic-assisted therapies to treat PTSD and TBI. This is not about legalization and this is not about recreational drug use. These clinical trials are already happening, and we need to continue this research for our service members.

"Race. Class. Gender." How The Woke Left Cycles Through Radical Movements

Image

NEW PODCAST ALERT: Christopher Rufo, the writer and documentary filmmaker whose reporting exposed the woke ideologies transforming companies like Disney and Walmart, joined Hold These Truths to break down the far left’s playbook for infiltrating America’s institutions. In this clip he describes the basic cycle of progressive movements – every few years switching their culture war focus between race, class, or gender. As soon as they push too far in one movement (i.e. BLM transforms into “Defund the Police” and then cities start to burn down) they change their focus to a new movement. Right now, their focus is on radical gender ideology. It only took a few years for that movement to go from allowing men to compete in women’s sports to demanding confused 12-year-olds be given puberty blockers and gender reassignment surgery. Chris gives a lot more great insight into the origins of wokeism and the culture wars today. Check it out on Hold These Truths podcast, available on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, Rumble or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Dan Crenshaw Discusses Biden's Border Wall and New House Speaker on Fox Business

Image

Yesterday Biden announced a new “border wall” in south Texas that covers around 20 miles of the border. This completely ignores real, effective solutions we could take right now to mitigate the border crisis.  If this administration actually wants to fix the crisis they created, they need to start enforcing the laws we have on the books. Start there.
