Surrey Heath News
Foxglove Cafe: I had the pleasure of cutting the ribbon to open the Cafe at Kingsclear Nursing Home in Camberley. The Cafe is a new alliance between Kingsclear and The Alzheimer's Society on the Hampshire/Surrey Heath border. It was so rewarding to see how well Kingsclear is doing, and how happy the residents are, and I wish the Cafe success!
School visits: I thoroughly enjoyed visiting Lorraine School, Kings International College and Collingwood College last month. I am delighted that we have brilliant schools in Surrey Heath, and it was heartening to meet so many bright pupils and dedicated school staff.
Windlesham and West End Bowling Clubs: Anyone who has tried bowls knows how addictive it can become, so I couldn't resist visiting the clubs in Windlesham and West End this summer to try my hand once again. It is a wonderful sport, but it is also a perfect opportunity to socialise and spend time chatting with competitors.
Silver Sunday: 6 October is the special Sunday when everyone can come together to celebrate older people. It is a chance for organisations already working with elderly people to show what they do as well as a chance for others to make new connections with local older residents. I encourage local groups, organisations, businesses and communities to come together and tackle loneliness by hosting free and fun events. You can find more details here.
Surrey Police: I have just had a catch-up with the Chief Constable, Gavin Stephens, and we discussed anti-social behaviour and other crimes that are concerning residents, particularly burglaries. Thankfully, both burglaries and ASB are on a downward trend, and I shall continue to keep in close touch with Surrey Police.
Customer & Communities Improvement Fund: South Western Railway is inviting bids for the first round of its Customer and Communities Improvement Fund (CCIF). There is £5.3 million available to support projects that help our communities. Applications can be made through an easy to follow application form, supported by a guidance booklet available on this website: https://southwesternrailway.com/ccif
