Policy & Public Affairs Lead

Dear friend,

It’s a big day for us at Centre for Mental Health as we’ve been in the Houses of Parliament launching A mentally healthier nation ([link removed]) – a document proposing cross-government policies to improve prevention, equality and support in the next decade.

We at Centre for mental health have been proud to lead the process of consulting on and writing A mentally healthier nation on behalf of more than 30 organisations with an interest in mental health, collectively representing millions of people.

With a maximum of 16 months left before the next General Election, we will all be urging political parties to help us build a mentally healthier nation by adopting these policies in their manifestos. Please help us by sharing the document and social media messages, especially with MPs, parliamentary candidates and councillors.

At the heart of A mentally healthier nation is the call to eradicate mental health inequalities. Our latest fact sheet ([link removed]) focuses on those faced by Muslims, highlighting significant barriers that urgently need to be addressed.

A mentally healthier nation

Mental health in the UK is getting worse. Sickness absence due to mental illness is soaring, rates of mental health difficulties are increasing at an alarming rate, and already overstretched services are struggling to meet rising demands. Along with over 30 organisations with an interest in mental health, we have developed a plan to address this and build a mentally healthier nation.

We’re calling on MPs and parliamentary candidates to commit to implementing the policies we set out within the next parliament.

Muslim mental health fact sheet

In partnership with the Woolf Institute, we’ve developed a fact sheet that brings together the latest available evidence on Muslim mental health across the life course. It highlights the urgent need to tackle the stark inequalities in Muslims’ access to, experience of and outcomes from mental health services.
