A NOTE FROM CHRISSY

As I write this note, we are just days from a possible government shutdown. I don’t know how this will end but even from my seat in the minority party, I’m trying. There’s a group of us behind the scenes, Republicans and Democrats, who are working to find a sensible, pragmatic compromise that addresses our nation’s most pressing needs. We’re trying.

But that’s not all that’s happening. My team and I have been busy across our community and I’d love to update you on our work.

$50 Million Returned to Constituents
One of my biggest responsibilities is one that doesn’t get a lot of attention; working with people in our community who are having trouble getting help they need from a federal agency. Every day, literally every single day, my office is asked to help expedite a passport, track down a tax refund, fix incorrect VA benefits, or resolve an issue with Social Security, just to name the most common problems we solve. We call each of these “cases” and the work we do “casework.” Since I was first sworn in, we’ve closed over 7,600 cases and returned over $50 million in backlogged or disputed benefits to people in our community. I’m so proud of my team and so grateful for the opportunity to serve my community in this way.

Healthy Snacks for Coatesville Elementary Schools
You’ve probably heard how proper nutrition has a huge effect on a child’s ability to learn and achieve in the classroom. That’s why I’m proud to share that, together with Sen. Comitta, we secured over $160,000 in funding to provide fruits and vegetables as snacks for Coatesville elementary students. We hope that promoting healthy foods like these will establish better eating habits – inside and outside of the classroom.

Receiving the Legislative Action Award at my 78th Town Hall
Even in an increasingly polarized country, there’s so much that we can all agree on, and much we can achieve. That was the subject of my recent town hall - the 78th! - during which I was recognized for my commitment to bipartisanship by the Bipartisan Policy Center. The Legislative Action Award is given each year to three Democrats and three Republicans “in recognition of their willingness to bridge divides to forge pragmatic solutions to the problems facing our nation.” I am grateful to the BPC for their work, my legislative team for their efforts to work across the aisle, and to everyone - Democrats and Republicans! - who keep coming to our town halls.

Thanks for checking in! I’m so grateful that you’ve chosen to be a part of my team. I will be in touch about all of the exciting updates to come – but in the meantime, I’m wishing you and your loved ones a wonderful start to the fall!

There’s work to be done.

– Chrissy
