This week, I introduced the bipartisan Stop Overdose in Schools Act to address the skyrocketing adolescent fentanyl overdose rate. Addressing the Increase in Adolescent Fentanyl Deaths This week, I introduced the bipartisan Stop Overdose in Schools Act to address the skyrocketing adolescent fentanyl overdose rate. The mortality rate from illicit fentanyl and synthetics among our adolescents has increased dramatically in just the past few years, and after conversation with my Central Washington Fentanyl Task Force, it has become quite clear that Central Washington law enforcement and school resource officers need more support. The Stop Overdose in Schools Act will be critical in fighting the fentanyl crisis and preventing drug-related overdose deaths. This landmark legislation would set aside funding for naloxone training and purchasing, increase naloxone access for school resource officers, security personnel, and school nurses, and prioritize funding for rural and high-drug activity school districts. I have long been an advocate for fighting the fentanyl crisis, from introducing major pieces of legislation such as the Law Enforcement Officers Preventing Overdose Deaths Act, the William and James Wonacott Act, and the Save Americans from the Fentanyl Emergency Act, to conducting quarterly meetings with my Fentanyl Task Force to work on actionable solutions. While there is no "silver-bullet" to solving this crisis, I am confident that, if enacted, the Stop Overdose in Schools Act will play a vital role in creating a safer future for our families and communities. Read More on My Website Honoring Gold Star Family Members for Their Sacrifices This week, I introduced the Gold Star Family Remembrance Week Resolution to establish a national week to honor the sacrifices made by families of U.S. military servicemembers who lost their lives in service to their nation. Our servicemembers and their families have sacrificed so much for our country, and we not only owe our fallen military heroes an enormous debt—we owe their families whom they left behind. With this resolution, we honor and recognize these families and commit to celebrating the lives of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. While we cannot begin to fathom the grief and pain they have experienced, we can all commit to ensuring their sacrifices were not in vain. Read More on My Website Advocating for Agricultural Producers It was an honor to speak at AmericanHort's biennial Impact Washington Summit this week. As a third-generation farmer from the Yakima Valley, I understand one of the top concerns for farmers and ranchers in Central Central Washington and across the nation is labor—and the problem is only getting worse. I remain committed to ensuring the voices of our producers are heard because the agriculture industry is vital to the prosperity of our nation. Celebrating the Congressional Western Caucus' Anniversary This week, I was honored to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Congressional Western Caucus. What started out as a small handful of folks from the Western United States has become a growing caucus of over 100 members who have dedicated their lives to defending the rural way of life. As Chairman of the Western Caucus, it has been a privilege to see this group of advocates grow, and I am looking forward to continuing to ensure the voice of rural America is heard in the halls of Congress for years to come. Stopping the Biden Administration from Overregulating Your Showers This week, I co-sponsored the Hot Showers Act—legislation to require the Biden Administration to remove a proposed rule which would significantly limit the availability of water heaters in the United States. From gas stoves to dishwashers, and now showers—the Biden Administration continues to sacrifice consumer choice and the American way of life just to push its extreme climate agenda. Their proposed rule would force reliable and affordable water heaters off the market, making it harder on the wallets of Central Washingtonians and the American people who are tired of the government trying to overregulate our lives. In these times of high inflation due to failed "Bidenomics" policies, it is more important than ever for consumers to be able to make the best decisions for their wallets—not be forced to purchase more expensive items due to the whims of elitist climate crusaders. The Biden Administration's encroachment upon our right to decide how we shower or what we can purchase is not only a threat to our quality of life, but also an affront to the very principles that lie at the heart of American individualism and liberty—and I will work tirelessly in Congress to defend that freedom.
