Waging War on ESG & the ‘Woke’ Agenda
The Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) movement, which among other methods attempts to deny financial services to industries the woke mob disagrees with politically, has become one of the greatest threats to Wyoming families, communities and businesses. It threatens to upend our vital energy industry and also attempts to sabotage our fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

The ESG movement is hardly the first attempt by the radical left to achieve its policy goals through backdoor methods. During the Obama administration, we witnessed this when the Department of Justice wrongfully targeted banks that worked with firearm companies under Operation Choke Point.

These radical attempts serve as a reminder that our liberties must be actively safeguarded or we risk losing them, and trust me - I will not let our freedoms slip away. That is why I cosponsored the Safe and Fair Enforcement Regulation (SAFER) Banking Act which would secure historic protections for energy companies and gun manufacturers and ensure these industries have access to banking and other financial services.

All legal businesses should have access to bank accounts, and this legislation makes sure the federal government cannot pick winners and losers when it comes to providing access to financial services.

While this legislation would provide access to banking for legal state cannabis businesses, I oppose making cannabis legal federally. This week, I introduced legislation to ensure the FDA cannot change the classification of marijuana, essentially legalizing it, without congressional approval.

I will always stand against the tyranny of big government to ensure that the freedoms we cherish so dearly in Wyoming are protected now and in the future.

Happy Trails,
Senator Lummis' Week in Pictures
This week, I celebrated 30 years of the Western Caucus serving as the voice for the west and rural America in Washington. The Western Caucus has taken on the most important issues facing the west from public land management to energy production. I am honored to be carrying on the legacy of fighting for the west as Chair of the Senate Western Caucus.

I joined Senator JD Vance (R-OH) and several of my senate colleagues at a press conference this week to discuss the Freedom to Breathe Act which seeks to ban any future attempt to force federal mask mandates on the people of Wyoming. Mask mandates were a central part of the tremendous government overreach that occurred during COVID-19. I am committed to preventing the Biden administration from further trampling all over the freedom of the people of Wyoming through unnecessary mandates. Click here to watch the video.

I had the pleasure of getting to spend time with Northern Arapaho Tribal Engineering Department Director Jola WallowingBull before she participated in a hearing for the Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Fisheries, Water, and Wildlife focused on examining the importance of federal drinking water and wastewater infrastructure investment for tribal communities. WORKING IN WASHINGTON

Legislative Actions:

  • I introduced the Deferring Executive Authority (DEA) Act to give Congress final approval over the legalization of marijuana.
    • Congress makes the laws in this country, not D.C. bureaucrats. The American people through their elected representatives in the Senate and House should have the final say on such a momentous change as the legalization of marijuana.
  • I joined Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) in introducing the Secure Our Border Act which seeks to take the necessary steps to regain control of our border by building a wall, hiring more Border Patrol agents, tightening asylum laws and much more.
    • This bill will protect Wyoming by restoring order at the border and fighting back against murderous drug cartels who have poisoned our communities with deadly fentanyl.
WORKING IN WYOMING

Working for Wyoming:

I was disappointed to learn that 21 national parks no longer accept cash as payment to enter. Having a credit card should not be a requirement to enjoy the great outdoors which is why I introduced the Protecting Access to Recreation with Cash (PARC) Act, which would require national parks to accept cash as a form of payment for entrance fees.

This bill will ensure that people in Wyoming have access to the spectacular array of national parks across our country and that tourists from around the world will continue to be able to visit Wyoming’s national parks without hassle.
GRANT OPPORTUNITIES FOR WYOMING
The Department of Agriculture announced $50 million worth of grants for farm trials through conservation innovation grants. These grants are designed to stimulate the adoption and evaluation of innovative conservation approaches in partnership with agricultural producers. For 2023, applications will be accepted from eligible entities for projects addressing at least one of the following priorities: irrigation management technologies; feed management and enteric methane reduction; grazing lands; nutrient management; and soil health demonstration trials.

WYOMING SHOUT OUT
Giving our children the gift of a quality education is truly one of the most important things we can do to ensure that the next generation will have the opportunities they deserve. This week, two Wyoming elementary schools, Sagewood Elementary in Casper and Southside Elementary School in Powell, earned the prestigious distinction of being recognized as 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools, our nation’s highest honor for public schools.

Now in its 40th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has recognized more than 9,700 schools with about 10,000 awards. Congratulations to the students, teachers and parents who have demonstrated the dedication to excellence required to earn this high honor.
