This one was hard to write.

John,

Just 19 men with box cutters and one man with a shoe bomb completely changed the airline industry and the way we fly forever. But the rise of mass shootings and gun violence in this country over the past decade has gone unanswered – until now.

Tomorrow, after years of public demand, President Biden will announce the first-ever U.S. office for gun violence prevention.

The impact of Biden’s new office depends on funding, which is approved by Congress. The party in power decides if the office can afford a water cooler, not to mention actual resources.

I don’t trust NRA-backed politicians like my opponent Mike Simpson to do right by my family or yours.

If we’re going to protect our children, it is more important than ever that we have a Congress that takes gun violence seriously and will support Biden’s agenda. Can you contribute $24 today to help me kick out one of the NRA’s favorite puppets in 2024?

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been 91 shooting victims in Idaho this year and 31 THOUSAND fatalities across the country. But gun violence victims don’t matter to Mike Simpson or the NRA’s other legislative hitmen.

Simpson has accepted hundreds of thousands in gun lobby contributions – blood money. He called the NRA’s endorsement an honor. And when Republican Senator Marco Rubio’s bipartisan bill for gun reform reached the House, Simpson voted against it.

A screenshot from a 2018 article on Fortune Magazine’s website showing Mike Simpson had already received over $385,000 from the NRA.

Who can forget the shooter who murdered four of his neighbors in Shoshone County this past Father’s Day, or the shooter who took the lives of four students at the University of Idaho last November?

I haven’t forgotten. I remember those victims today, and I’ll remember them every time I vote on gun policy in Congress, if you do me the honor of sending me there next year. Every dollar helps: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/davidroth

It’s no secret that I worry for my children. But if I’m being completely transparent – I worry about myself, too.

John, I am a gay father-of-two, running a public campaign in possibly the most dangerous time to be LGBTQ+ in this country since Mike took office in 1998.

There are both personal and societal risks to my running for Congress that other candidates will never understand. They don’t have to ask the questions I do. Questions like:

How will it affect my children if they lose their father?

What message will it send to other LGBTQ+ Idahoans if something happens to me?

Still, I run. Because having a chance to protect families across this country means more than my life.

I couldn’t do this without you,

David Roth

David Roth is a single, gay dad running for Idaho’s Second Congressional District. We’re going up against a GOP incumbent who has been in this seat for almost 25 years. It’s time for change in Idaho, and our grassroots campaign is building on the momentum that began in David’s race for U.S. Senate last cycle. The GOP is not planning to defend this seat, so we plan to take it from them and help Democrats retake the House majority next year. We’d love your support to build a solid campaign to bring progress to Idaho and the country.
