John,

If you're frustrated by the unnecessary plastic packaging that comes with your shopping, we invite you to read this:

Too many of Costco's products come wrapped in excessive, single-use plastic packaging. Almost all of that plastic ends up getting thrown out, ending up in landfills and incinerators.

Costco has 124 million members, so we're talking about a lot of plastic waste.

PIRG is urging Costco to get rid of single-use plastic packaging. John, are you in?

Tell Costco: It's time to move beyond plastic.

With many of its products encased in single-use plastic packaging, Costco sends a lot of waste home with its customers. Tell Costco to stop using unnecessary plastic packaging. ADD YOUR NAME:

John,

You unload your Costco purchases into your cabinets and refrigerator, pleased with the day's savings.

But by the time you're done, the trash can is chock full of wasteful plastic packaging. You don't feel so good now.

Wouldn't we all feel a little better if companies like Costco made it easier to avoid the plastic packaging that ends up polluting our environment and threatening our health? It's time we address this problem at the source.

Tell Costco: Ditch single-use plastic packaging.

Mountains of plastic packaging lining store shelves is just not acceptable when there are 170 trillion pieces of plastic pollution in our oceans.[2] Our excessive plastic use pollutes our communities, bloats landfills, and can break down into microplastic pieces that end up in our water or even our food.

And it's not just the planet we are worried about -- it's our health, too.

More than 91% of plastic gets sent to a landfill or incinerator, generating air pollution filled with toxic heavy metals and cancer-causing pollutants and water pollution that can threaten drinking water supplies.[3]

Urge Costco to ditch unnecessary plastic packaging in its stores.

There is a bright side to this story, and it's all thanks to supporters like you.

PIRG has helped pass bans on some of the worst plastics in 14 states and counting. More than a third of Americans now live in a state that has a ban on at least one kind of single-use plastic.[4]

But there's more work to be done.

Costco is one of the nation's most popular places to shop. If it charts a path that doesn't rely on excessive plastic packaging, it will set an important example for the rest of the industry to follow.

We can help make this happen. Add your name to our petition urging Costco to move beyond plastic.
