# [#]Aloha Friend,

This weekend, Governor Josh Green will travel to the United Nations to seek additional support and resources for Maui’s recovery efforts from partners around the world.

Governor Green will also update a U.N. conference on Hawaii’s progress toward our sustainability and renewable energy goals, and deliver a message to attendees on the growing threat of extreme weather events fueled by global climate change, which our state experienced so painfully last month.

“There is no town, city, or human community on earth that is safe from the kind of extreme weather fueled by climate change that we experienced in Hawaii last month,” Governor Green said. "We are in this together — we are all part of one interconnected and interdependent global community.”

Tomorrow is the deadline for survivors of the Maui wildfires to register for emergency housing provided by the Red Cross and state of Hawaii and funded by FEMA.

Eligible households who have not yet contacted the Red Cross and still need a safe place to stay can call 1-800-RED-CROS (733-2767) before Friday at 5:00 pm HST.

Housing programs supported by the state, FEMA, and other aid organizations are currently over 8,000 people housed in 40 locations across Maui, and will continue to provide lodging for the next 12-18 months while permanent housing plans are developed.

Monday, September 18th is the deadline for Red Cross financial assistance, which will help people to make their own decisions and prioritize their own family’s needs to start recovering.

Eligible households can visit www.redcross.org/hihelp [www.redcross.org/hihelp] for more information.

To support victims of the Maui fires, please give to the Hawaii Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund, which will ensure your donation goes to those in need. [[link removed]]
