Earlier today, you heard from my good friend and Senate colleague Chris Murphy about the importance of grassroots financial support ahead of the FEC fundraising deadline on September 30.

Now I hope you will give me a chance to explain what that support means to me.

There are some U.S. Senators who are happy for the multiple election cycles of time off during their six-year terms, the opportunity to build their campaign war chests while incurring little expense, and not facing the pressure cooker of the campaign trail day in and day out for years at a time.

Not me, though. I believe that serving as a U.S. Senator is a privilege and a sacred duty to which all 100 of us should strive to live up to day in and day out.

That is why last year, I hit the campaign trail hard, rallying voters and volunteers in Pennsylvania, Nevada, New Hampshire, Arizona, Colorado, and Georgia where Democrats came out on top.

My team and I also worked overtime reaching voters in states where we came close, but fell just short, like Wisconsin, Ohio, and North Carolina.

The truth is that whether we were in states that we won or lost, showing up is part of the job, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

That’s why I am so excited to be a part of the Biden-Harris campaign National Advisory Board. I’ll be hitting the campaign trail once again in battleground states and defending important Senate seats in states like Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
