Dear Friends,

We’re excited to share our perspective through an op-ed published today in the Houston Chronicle: “On Super Tuesday, ignoring Texas Latinos could be disastrous for Democrats.”

In Texas, Latinos make up 30% of eligible voters and across the country there are 30 million eligible Latino voters. With Super Tuesday just around the corner, our Board Chair, Andy Canales, writes how candidates seeking our votes can effectively reach out to the Latino community:

“Simply having a strategy for outreach makes a huge difference: a website authentically translated in Spanish, Latino staff members in senior-level positions, showing up in Spanish media markets and knocking on our doors. We want candidates to genuinely ask for our support. Beyond this, we want candidates to speak fluently about a wide-range of issues like health care, the economy and education. We’re not a single-issue voting bloc. We come from many different countries, and each of us has our own unique experience living here. Some of us speak Spanish; others don’t. Some of us are fourth-generation Texan, while others are newly naturalized.”
