There are two recent developments that will result in devastating cuts to your school district. A new Florida law took effect that gives vouchers in the form of payouts to students who attend private schools or homeschool-- regardless of family income. There is also a proposal in Congress to slash federal public education funding at a time when we need to get positive things done for students. It is up to us to advocate for the resources our students need.

It is critical that we tell our elected officials what we want for our children, teachers and public schools.

Read the update below and visit the Advocacy Dashboard to take action for students. We make it easy to identify and contact your legislators via email and/or social media. Together, we can advocate for policies that invest in children and support their future.

Protect kids from harmful federal cuts

A bill in Congress would cut an estimated 28% from public school funding- including cuts to magnet programs, English Language Learners, and our most vulnerable students attending Title 1 schools. Students cannot afford these cuts as they recover from learning losses from the last two years.

Tell your U.S. Representative in Congress to invest in our children and the public schools.

Demand transparency for your tax dollars

A recent article in the Tampa Bay TImes titled "Florida school vouchers can pay for TVs, kayaks and theme parks. Is that OK?" outlined the many ways tax payer dollars can be used in the form of school vouchers by families who send their child to private school or who homeschool. "Theme park passes, 55-inch TVs, and stand-up paddleboards are among the approved items that recipients can buy to use at home. The purchases can be made by parents who home-school their children or send them to private schools, if any voucher money remains after paying tuition and fees.."

There is little to no oversight or transparency on how our tax dollars are being spent on these voucher programs which drain precious resources from our public schools. Tell Florida lawmakers that you demand transparency for our tax dollars.
