Dear John,

Thank you for reading the latest edition of my newsletter. I hope you all had a brilliant summer.

Many of you will have spent some well-deserved time off over the summer at a local pub.

We have dozens of brilliant pubs across the Borders that bring people together for social occasions.

More than that, many of those pubs play a vital role as the beating heart of their local community.

So today, I’ve launched a competition to celebrate the best Borders pubs.

It’s important that we recognise great local pubs because they are valuable businesses that play a vital role as employers in our local economy.

The Covid pandemic and global energy price rises have made it a difficult few years for hospitality businesses.

I am confident the future for local pubs will be much more positive as our economy grows from strength to strength.

But local pubs still need our support. So please take part in my Local Pub Awards and encourage others to do the same by sharing the competition on your social media channels.

Nominations are open for one month, until Friday, 6 October.
