Weekly Script September 10th, 2023 WEEKLY SC℞IPT Friends, Thank you for taking time to read my weekly update. Below you'll learn more about what I'm doing in Washington to support Iowans in the first district. Visit My Website Remembering 9/11 Twenty-two years ago, our nation faced the most horrific terrorist attack in our country’s history. In tragedy we came together as one, and we join together again today to mourn the lives lost on that terrible day. First and foremost, 9/11 reminds us of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing each moment with our loved ones. The most lasting impact was the profound loss of life – 2,977 innocent victims from over 90 countries perished in the attacks. These were people from all walks of life, going about their daily routines, who suddenly became victims of a senseless act of terror. It is imperative that we remember these individuals not merely as statistics but as human beings with dreams, aspirations, and loved ones left behind. They were fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, friends, and colleagues. Remembering the victims of 9/11 allows us to keep their legacies alive and honor their memory. We must ensure that future generations understand the profound impact of that day, not only in terms of the lives lost but also the lessons learned. It compels us to prioritize empathy, compassion, and unity over hate and division. The response to the attacks, marked by the heroism of first responders and the unity of the American people, reminds us that in times of crisis, we can overcome our differences and stand together. These courageous men and women, representing the fire departments, police forces, paramedics, and countless others, selflessly rushed toward danger as others fled. They ran into burning buildings, risking their lives to save those trapped inside. They worked tirelessly to stabilize the chaos, comfort the wounded, and search for survivors. Their heroic actions serve as a poignant reminder of the unwavering commitment of first responders to protect and serve their communities. 9/11 also underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges, particularly terrorism. The events of that day spurred a global awakening to the threats posed by extremist ideologies and terrorist networks. It served as a stark reminder that terrorism knows no borders and that international cooperation is essential in combating this menace. It serves as a constant reminder that we must work collectively to prevent such acts of terror from happening again and to promote peace and security worldwide. As we remember 9/11, we must honor the bravery of our first responders and the countless lives lost that day. Their sacrifice serves as a stark reminder of the need for global solidarity in the fight against terrorism. As we remember the victims of 9/11, let us also look forward with hope, determination, and a commitment to a better future for all. May the memory of the lives lost on 9/11 live on forever. 20 County Tour It is always great to meet with Iowans as I travel across the first district! It truly is my favorite part of serving in Congress. Speaking to Iowans allows me to stay informed about what is happening in their communities and what I can do to help. I had a great time at the Tri-State Rodeo in Fort Madison meeting with constituents and watching bull and bronco riding! I had a great time learning more about the history of the Amana Colonies at the Amana Heritage Museum. Thank you to the Amana Heritage Society for the tour and discussion about priorities for the Farm Bill and rural economic development. I met with officials from the City of Norwalk, the Warren County Board of Supervisors and officials from the Warren County Economic Development Authority to learn more about how they’re planning ahead to meet the needs of their fast-growing community. I visited the archives and beautiful park grounds at the Herbert Hoover Library and Museum this week in West Branch. Conservative Climate Summit I enjoyed hearing from energy experts and speaking about the priorities of the Conservative Climate Caucus at this year's Conservative Climate Summit in Utah. Thank you Rep. John Curtis for your leadership! Legislative Roundup This week, I introduced the Share the Savings with Seniors Act, legislation that ensures senior patients with chronic medical conditions are able to directly benefit from the savings that plans and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) negotiate on their behalf.
