Dear John,

I love September. I was one of those kids who looked forward to getting back to school in the fall.

I want that same kind of excitement for every Oregon student. And that’s why I want Oregon’s schools to be the best they can be for every child.

Here’s how we’re going to get it done:

📚 Invest in early literacy programs to ensure all students are reading by third grade and all educators have the tools they need to support every student. 

💸 Ensure all high school students complete a financial literacy and life skills course where they learn budgeting, resume writing, time management and other practical skills they need to be ready for the future.

🫂 Increase educational achievement for rural youth and youth of color by expanding investments in community-led initiatives.

📝 Reduce reliance on standardized testing and instead focus on real-time assessments.

Every Oregon child should have a safe place to receive a high-quality public education, and every working family needs access to affordable child care options. My administration is working hard to make that a reality here in Oregon.
