Minister of Foreign Affairs to welcome foreign minister of Lithuania to Canada
The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that he will host Linas Linkevičius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, in Ottawa, Ontario, on February 27, 2020.

- Governor General Julie Payette visited Lithuania in November 2019, meeting with President Gitanas Nausėda as well as taking part in a variety of events that included academic, business and NGO communities.
- Lithuania is a like-minded partner, sharing Canada’s positions on free trade, the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, Ukraine and Russia. Canada and Lithuania cooperate in international organizations such as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
- The Canada-Lithuania commercial relationship is growing, with bilateral trade totalling $365.6 million at the end of 2019, a 15% increase over the previous year.
- The year 2021 will mark the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Canada and Lithuania. Canada never recognized the Soviet annexation of the Baltic States.
- The Lithuanian diaspora in Canada comprises approximately 59,000 people.
