In the Office Firing Back at the Biden Administration's Amended WOTUS Rule Last week, the Biden Administration scrambled to tweak their terrible WOTUS rule just enough in an attempt to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling and solicited zero stakeholder feedback in the process. The U.S. Supreme Court’s May decision was very clear – the federal government may not use the Clean Water Act to violate the private property rights of American citizens. I will keep fighting this rule tooth and nail on behalf of the people who feed, fuel, and clothe us all, and also on behalf of all Americans whose businesses and private lives are being affected by this gross example of government overreach. Creating a Government that's Accountable According to recent IRS whistleblower testimony made public by the House Ways and Means Committee, it appears that President Biden was not only aware of his son Hunter’s corrupt foreign business deals but was also in the room for them. We need to conduct rigorous oversight to root out corruption in the Executive Branch. We also need to hold the federal government accountable and rein in the White House’s abuse of power.  As the Biden Administration has proven time and again, executive orders are out of control, and they’re no way to govern in a democracy. That’s why I introduced the More Accountability is Necessary Now Acts, which require the President to notify Congress and the public before issuing any new executive orders pertaining to agriculture, energy, natural resources, the right to life, the Second Amendment, and immigration. This is a commonsense way to hold the government accountable and stop some of the big government overreach that Kansans in the Big First are sick and tired of. Protecting School Archery, Target Shooting, and Hunter Safety Programs President Biden wants to punish American schools for training students in hunting, archery, and other shooting sports. In Kansas, anyone over the age of 12 may hunt alone if they have completed a hunter education course. Training students in firearm safety is therefore paramount, but President Biden wants to get rid of these courses altogether. The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA), which I voted against, amended the Elementary and Secondary Education Act to eliminate federal funding from schools that teach students firearm safety. Washington Democrats will stop at nothing as they chip away at the Second Amendment, even if it means stripping firearm safety courses from young people. I cosponsor H.R. 5110, the Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act, which would amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act to explicitly state that schools with programs aimed at training students in archery, hunting, or other shooting sports are absolutely eligible for federal funding. Sanctioning Iran, Fighting Terrorism, Protecting Americans from Nuclear Threats In 2015, the United States and Iran, along with other world powers, signed a nuclear agreement formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Under the agreement, Iran agreed to dismantle their nuclear program and open their nuclear facilities to inspection in exchange for billions of dollars in sanctions relief. In 2018, however, the United States withdrew from the agreement since the agreement failed to address Iran’s ballistic missile program and their war in the Middle East. While our country continues to protect peace around the globe, Congress is stepping up to bolster sanctions on Iran. I cosponsor H.R. 3774, the Stop Harboring Iranian Petroleum (SHIP) Act, and H.R. 3152, the Fight and Combat Rampant Iranian Missile Exports Act (Fight CRIME) Act. Together, these bills take a strong stand against Iran. We must sanction foreign individuals, entities, or states who knowingly support Iran’s disregard for human rights. Click here to read more about H.R. 3152.   In the District Visiting Caterpillar Work Tools Plant I enjoyed visiting the Caterpillar Work Tools plant in Wamego last week. Caterpillar manufactures machinery for clients all around the world. Adam Maize, Facility Manager of the plant, gave me a tour of their site and shared that more than 60% of their 300 on-site employees have worked there for more than five years. We also discussed Caterpillar's partnership with Kansas technical colleges to create a career pipeline for the training of welders and trade students. Businesses like Cat in Wamego help the Big First thrive, and I am grateful for their hard work. Visiting R-Tech Tool and Machine Inc. R-Tech is a family-owned business in Wamego specializing in machining parts for a variety of industries. The Routh family has proudly supplied businesses from across the country with specialized products for more than 20 years. I visited R-Tech last week and toured the plant with owner Doug Routh and Director of Operations Josh Routh. During the tour, Doug and Josh shared about the issues their company is facing, like workforce shortages. Many small businesses like R-Tech are struggling to recruit employees, and federal red tape from President Biden's Small Business Administration is only adding more obstacles as they fight to keep their operations running. R-Tech and small businesses across the Big First District are the backbone of our economy. I will keep fighting to remove burdensome government overreach on the livelihoods of hardworking Kansans like the Routh family. 2023 Military Academy Nominations Now Open As a member of Congress, it is my honor to offer service academy nominations for ten students in the Big First District who wish to pursue a career serving in our nation's military.
