Earlier today I was pleased to announce our plan to establish the first ever Child Care and Education Trust Fund using the gaming tax revenues from the proposed destination resort and casino on the ballot this November in Richmond. With childcare costs as high as $20,000 a year and some folks facing years-long waitlists, this is a groundbreaking approach that will address both affordability and capacity for parents and caregivers here in the city.
The gaming tax revenue, coupled with an upfront payment by the operators, will allow us to create hundreds of new child care spots as well as increase funding for parks and recreation.
As I said earlier today, we've identified a crisis in the city. We've also presented a solution to fix that crisis and it's my hope that if you agree with this solution, you will come out and vote ‘yes’ in November.
