Back-to-School Block Parties

Galveston County Health District, Coastal Health & Wellness and ARC Pet Allies recently served students and families at its two Back-to-School Block Party events.?

Families attended the events on July 29 and Aug. 5 for free school supplies, student sports physicals, immunizations, free vision screenings and had a chance to learn about community resources like Women, Infants and Children (WIC), SNAP, Medicaid, registering as a CHW patient, and more.?

Coastal Health & Wellness and Texas City Independent School District celebrate grand opening of school-based clinic, Aug. 8?

CHW and TCISD have partnered to open a school-based clinic at the Calvin Vincent Early Childhood Center Campus in Texas City. A celebratory ribbon cutting hosted by the Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce was held at 10:00 a.m. on the morning of the successful grand opening. A Certificate of Congressional Recognition was presented by Congressman Randy Weber?s office to congratulate Coastal Health & Wellness on the grand opening and acknowledge their dedication to maintaining excellent health throughout Galveston County.?

The clinic will provide a broad range of medical services, routine exams, sports physicals, acute illness treatment, injury, mental health services and more. Immunizations will be available, soon. Patients who are uninsured, underinsured and fully insured are welcome.?

By offering comprehensive health care on-site, Coastal Health & Wellness aims to improve health outcomes, increase convenience, and reduce absenteeism among students.?

The clinic is now open to see patients at the Calvin Vincent Early Childhood Center Campus located at 1805 13th Ave. N., Texas City, TX 77591.??

CHW celebrates National Health Center Week, Aug. 6-12?

CHW celebrated National Health Center Week (NHCW), a time to raise awareness about the mission and accomplishments of CHW and other health centers.??

This year's NHCW theme was ?The Roadmap to a Stronger America.? To honor this week, Coastal Health & Wellness participated in various events, including the grand opening of our school-based clinic, The #NHCW23 Bingo Challenge photoshoot, and an ice cream social.?

Coastal Health & Wellness is accredited by The Joint Commission and is a recognized Patient-Centered Medical Home committed to providing access to high-quality, affordable primary care to everyone. Services include dental and primary medical care, pediatric care, behavioral health, and a substance use disorder- mental health program.?

GCHD WIC hosts Community Baby Fair, Aug. 2?

In honor of National Breastfeeding Month, WIC hosted a Community Baby Fair to help families achieve success in all things baby. Community members gathered to learn more about the local services available to them and enjoyed raffles, children?s crafts, face painting, cooking demos and more.??

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. donates backpacks and school supplies to children in GCHD Immunizations Clinic?

On Aug. 3, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. partnered with the Galveston County Health District to give away school supplies during the Back-to-School Vaccinations Clinic. Each student that visited the clinic took home a free backpack filled with school supplies.??

St. Vincent?s Back-to-School Blast?

GCHD Public Health Nurses attended St. Vincent?s Back-to-School Blast on Aug. 4. They provided adult health screenings, including blood pressure, oxygen level, and blood glucose level checks, and mpox and COVID-19 vaccinations.??

GCHD continues fentanyl fight?

In an effort to combat the opioid crisis in Galveston County, GCHD public health nurses provided Our Daily Bread in Galveston with naloxone (Narcan) training. In total, they distributed 96 doses to the facility to pass out. Public health nurses also provided Salvation Army in Galveston with Narcan training and distributed 216 doses for the organization to pass out.??

GCHD hosts blood drive, Aug. 22?

The Galveston County Health District hosted the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center for a Blood Drive on Aug. 22. Donors received a free pint of Blue Bell ice cream and a stack of IHOP pancakes as token of appreciation for donating. Thank you to those who donated, as your donations will benefit patients who will undergo surgery, cancer treatment, and transfusions for blood loss from traumatic injuries.??

ARC to host two low-cost pet vaccine clinics, Sept. 14, 15

The Galveston County Animal Resource Center (ARC) will host two low-cost pet vaccination clinics on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 12-2 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 15 from 2-4 p.m.??
