Dear John,

Yesterday, we pulled our 300th pet from the city pound, Chicago Animal Care and Control, for the month of August. Someday soon little Coralie will have the happy, loving home she deserves!

Pulling our 300th pet is bittersweet news though.

CACC is fighting an overcrowding crisis this summer, which is why we’ve stepped up our intake from their facility (As CACC’s largest transfer partner, we pulled 216 pets in June, 238 in July, and now 313 in August. That’s more than 40% of the total number of animals pulled from CACC this summer and does not include the pets that came to PAWS from other Chicago sources, including stray pets we diverted from CACC).

But, at CACC, the life-threatening danger to these innocent pets is on the rise. After more than two decades of consistent and dramatic decline in euthanasia throughout Chicago, the numbers are going in the wrong direction. Chicago is losing hard-won ground in the battle against euthanasia.

Even healthy homeless pets are in danger as CACC continues to be flooded with stray and abandoned animals.

Adopters, fosters, and volunteers are needed to give these pets the loving homes and healthy lives they deserve!

PAWS Chicago is able to do more because of the infrastructure we’ve built over 26 years, including our state-of-the-art animal hospital, which can house over 200 pets on any given day.

But community engagement is the key. We need your support.

Please consider adopting a homeless pet. And, if you’re not ready for adoption, consider fostering or volunteering. Every pet moved to an adopted or foster home frees up room for another pet who might otherwise be at risk of euthanasia.

Making Waves: Aloha, Beach Party!

The lively luau brought out over 400 human supporters with 100 four-legged companions wearing sunglasses and colorful T-shirts. Donation Plea: Traps Needed ASAP

“Trap” can sound like a bad word, but when it comes to outdoor cat colonies, they literally save lives. Our Trap Neuter Return (TNR) program uses traps to safely transport feral cats to and from our Lurie Clinic for essential care. Beyond spay/neuter, our team regularly helps outdoor cats with medical needs, like infected eyes and broken bones.

Every additional trap expands the number of outdoor cats we can help. Please ship donations to: PAWS Chicago, 3516 W. 26th Street, Chicago, IL 60623.
