Our Hearts are With Texas and Ohio

We are all heartbroken for the victims of the terrible acts of hate in Texas and Ohio this weekend. I pray for those who were injured and for the families of those who lost loved ones. And I am sincerely grateful to the first responders and law enforcement officers who acted swiftly. There is no place in this country for hate of any kind – period. The President rightfully spoke out against acts of racially motivated violence and we must, as a nation, do more. That starts by grappling with the underlying disease in our communities: ideologies of hate, mental derangement & loss of respect for human life.

Mobile Office Hours

A member of my team will be holding mobile office hours in Boone, Marion, Tipton, and Howard counties this week. I arrange these mobile office hours in order to help Hoosiers experiencing troubles with a federal agency.

A complete list of the Mobile Office Hour locations can be found below.

Op-Ed: Indiana Courts at Full Strength for First Time in Years

Image

Most Hoosiers believe — as I do — that our federal judges should follow the Constitution as written, and I vowed as a candidate to seek out judges who would not legislate from the bench. Now, for the first time in years, Indiana has a full slate of federal judges.
My op-ed for the Indianapolis Star outlines why the makeup of our courts will matter immensely in the coming years as difficult cases work their way through the system.

Preserving Limits on Russia’s Strategic Nuclear Arsenal

With bipartisan support, I have introduced a bill to urge the Trump administration to maintain the last remaining US-Russia Arms Control Treaty.

Senator Lugar championed the New START Treaty in 2010 as a means for keeping Russia’s nuclear weapons ambitions in check. This treaty is set to expire in 2021, and as renewing this treaty is debated, we must approach the decision with our eyes wide open to address how nuclear weapons have evolved since the first New START.

President Trump’s Bipartisan Budget Deal

Last week, I voted for President Trump’s bipartisan budget deal that would ensure our armed forces have the funding they need so we never have to fight a fair fight.

As a Marine, I am committed to protecting our troops and ensuring they have the resources needed to keep our country safe and secure. We are facing growing threats from Russia and China and our enemies abroad, and we have a humanitarian and national security crisis at our southern border. President Trump’s bipartisan budget deal provides the critical resources that our service members need to protect themselves and our country. Learn more here.

Recent Accomplishments

Much was accomplished in the Senate last month. We confirmed a score of federal judges, secured funding for the crisis at the border, and passed the National Defense Authorization Act to support our military.

I am looking forward to sharing these accomplishments with Hoosiers as I travel the state during the August state work period. Watch here to learn more.
