First, I wanted to thank everyone who took the time to come to my town hall with Rep. Yadira Caraveo last week, along with everyone who filled out my campaign’s Town Hall Issue Survey.

Hearing directly from Coloradans is a critical part of how I do my job. Hearing your thoughts, concerns, and questions — whether in person or online — makes a difference in how I take on the biggest issues facing our state.

These were some of the key topics we discussed on Monday night:

  • Supporting our veterans: We need to make sure veterans have access to the care, services, and benefits they need to thrive during and after their service. The PACT Act, which we passed one year ago, expanded health coverage to 3.5 million toxic-exposed veterans. It was the biggest expansion of health care for veterans in decades — but we can’t stop there.
  • Fixing our broken immigration system: In 2013, I was part of the Gang of Eight who came together to create and pass comprehensive immigration reform through the Senate. It was an incredible moment of bipartisanship — until the bill was blocked by far-right Republicans in the House. Reforming our broken immigration system is possible, and I will work with any Senator to come up with a solution that honors both our history as a nation of immigrants and the rule of law.
  • Bipartisanship: Citizens United, gerrymandering, and the elimination of key parts from the Voting Rights Act of 1965 have created a system that allows Republicans to play “shutdown politics.” They’d rather block any chance of progress than come to the table and work on solutions. This can’t continue. We must reform our campaign finance laws, protect our democracy, and get back to making progress for the American people — and I’ll work with anyone in Washington to get it done.

We make progress by staying focused on the issues that matter most — and by electing public officials who are committed to doing the best for their constituents.

I’m working hard to make sure we elect and re-elect progressive champions across the country. I don’t accept a dime from corporate PACs or federal lobbyists, which makes your grassroots support now even more important.

Will you chip in now to help protect our majority in the Senate and take back control of the House? Colorado deserves leadership who fights for them, not for special interests or shadowy super PACs. Even $10 makes a difference in this fight.

Honest conversations like these are some of the most important ones I have.
