South Carolina's new all-male highest court reverses course on abortion, upholding strict 6-week ban
South Carolina’s newly all-male Supreme Court upheld a law banning abortion procedures except in the earliest 6 weeks of pregnancy. This means South Carolina now bans abortion before some women even know they are pregnant.
This development cements Virginia’s status as the only remaining state in the South without an abortion ban.
But if Republicans are successful in winning back the VA Senate this fall, they’ll secure a “trifecta” of control over the levers of power in the Commonwealth. And we all know they’ll rush to ban abortion as fast as they can.
There’s no other way to put this: We must codify the protections of Roe v. Wade into law at the federal level. And to do that, we need to retain and expand Democratic control of the Senate by re-electing Tim Kaine as Virginia’s U.S. Senator.
Women’s reproductive choice is at the core of what it means to be free. Bodily autonomy and the freedom to choose when and how to start your own family should not be dictated by politicians.
Tim Kaine has already introduced bipartisan legislation aimed at protecting women’s reproductive rights. But he needs your help to keep fighting. Contribute now to his re-election campaign.
