Today marks six years since the genocide that devastated the Rohingya people. The Emgage Action Policy team, along with Rohingya refugees and coalition partners, advocated in Congress and Administration agencies this week for the human rights of the Rohingya. Here are some recent updates from Emgage and Emgage Action: 

  • CEO Wa’el Alzayat spoke at the historic Parliament of the World’s Religions on how faith-based groups can combat rising authoritarianism. 
  • CEO Wa'el Alzayat also met with Syrian American students and young professionals in Orange County. This meeting had a great turnout and was an excellent opportunity to discuss civic engagement and the importance of mobilizing voters.
  • We released our 2022 Emgage Action annual report! Check it out here to learn more about the important work we did last year.
  • The first in-person Michigan Muslim Civic Table meeting was held, bringing together partners to discuss priorities for the coalition moving forward.
  • Emgage Pennsylvania Executive Director Salima Suswell was the keynote speaker at the International League of Muslim Women Inc. Philadelphia Chapter luncheon.
  • Emgage New York Metro celebrated the individuals and organizations awarded at the 5th Annual Halal Guide Food Festival, including Senior Advisor Dr. Debbie Almontaser.
  • Emgage Texas's Emerging Leaders finished the educational portion of their program in a workshop where they explored overcoming challenges as leaders and organizing minority communities. 
  • Emgage Florida held a Muslim Civic Table meeting and sent a follow-up survey to those who attended the successful Small Business Roundtable with Director Farooq Mitha.

  • Aug. 25: Emgage Pennsylvania Executive Director Salima Suswell is speaking on Community Service through Civic Engagement at Masjidullah for a Cool Beans session.
  • Sept. 2-3: 60th ISNA Convention. CEO Wa’el Alzayat is moderating a main panel on Sept. 3 and Emgage Michigan Executive Director Nada Al-Hanooti is speaking on another panel on Sept. 2. Register here.
  • Sept. 8: Join Emgage Texas at Houston's Chinese Community Center for the inaugural American Mosaic Festival.
  • Sept. 10: Join Emgage Virginia for its reception celebrating Muslim appointees to the Biden Administration.
  • Sept. 30: Join Emgage Pennsylvania for its Emerging Leaders Program, to be held at Temple University.
  • Oct. 15: Join Emgage Texas for their 2023 Houston Election Candidate Forum.
