Abortion’s next big battleground is in Virginia
A breaking news story in Axios shows Democrats mobilizing for what they widely view as the next major referendum on abortion rights: this fall’s Virginia state legislature elections.
Here’s why it matters: Virginia is the only state in the South without an abortion ban -- and VA Gov. Glenn Youngkin is pushing hard to change that. He’s called for a 15-week ban -- both in Virginia and at the federal level.
With control of both the House of Delegates and VA Senate up for grabs in this November’s election, Virginia’s status as the only remaining state in the South without an abortion ban is in serious jeopardy.
To stop the GOP’s plan to take away women’s reproductive rights, we need a powerful Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate that will codify abortion rights once and for all -- something Tim Kaine has been fighting for since he introduced the Reproductive Freedom For All Act.
