This month, we are proud to honor Gene Keenon.

** Welcome to the August edition of The Moran Minuteman.
------------------------------------------------------------

This monthly newsletter is our way of recognizing extraordinary efforts in Texas Congressional District 1 and providing an inside look into what happens behind the scenes in the life of a Congressman.

The month of August brought us home to East Texas. August is a month of recess from Congress, but that doesn't mean we don't work. Our team took the opportunity to travel across the district to meet with constituents, businesses, and local elected officials to gain insights into how we can serve you in Washington, D.C.

It's hard to believe, but we are already gearing up for another election season, with the Republican Primary scheduled for Tuesday, March 5. Earlier this month, I spent three days on the road traveling to nine communities across the First District of Texas to announce that I am asking voters to hire me for two more years as your Congressman. We had a great time talking with voters from Center to Texarkana and everywhere in between. If you weren't able to make it to one of the events, I hope I'll see you on the road sometime soon!

** Congratulations to our August Minuteman -
------------------------------------------------------------

When I think of East Texans, I think of the Minutemen of the Revolutionary War ([link removed]) . Loyal to country and community, dependable, selfless, and ready at a moment’s notice, the Minutemen were American heroes who helped turn the tide of the Revolutionary War. Today’s East Texans reflect those traits. You are patriotic, dependable, and deeply committed to making our communities better.

Each month, I will recognize an East Texan who has gone above and beyond in serving our region - someone who epitomizes the identity of a Minuteman. In addition to recognition in the monthly newsletter, we will send the person a Moran Minuteman t-shirt.

This month’s Minuteman, Gene Keenon, is known across East Texas as a dedicated volunteer and community leader. Over the past 30 years, Gene has served over 30 different communities in some capacity. His countless hours of volunteering for multiple different Chambers of Commerce, Economic Development Corporations, Rotary Clubs, and Beautification Committees have improved the lives of neighbors and the overall environment of East Texas.

When he nominated Gene for the August Minuteman, Gene’s friend and co-worker Bill Firestone said, “It is an honor to work with Gene and get to see firsthand his dedication and passion around serving our East Texas communities. Gene has a servant heart that radiates pride for all things East Texas. One would be hard-pressed to find a more dedicated, active, and involved leader than Gene.”

Thank you, Gene, for your dedication to East Texas. It is an honor to recognize you as the August 2023 Minuteman.

Do you know an East Texan who would be a great next recipient? Please submit their name here ([link removed]) .

Our Moran Minuteman team will also be out and about serving at community events and in disaster relief efforts. Look for us, and we’ll toss you a t-shirt!

** Delivering on Promises
------------------------------------------------------------
When I ran for Congress, I promised to be active in East Texas and present in our communities. Check out this radio segment where I was able to share about some of what we've learned on our travels during the August recess.

As we begin the campaign for two more years in Congress, I pledge to continue seeking your input and taking it to Washington, D.C., where I will work to get government out of the way so our families, businesses, and communities can continue to thrive.
Sincerely,
Nathaniel Moran
Congressman, First District of Texas
