Dear City Limits friends,

We’re excited to share that our NYCHA reporter, Tatyana Turner ([link removed]) , has been chosen for the prestigious 2023 Age Boom Academy Fellowship at Columbia University ([link removed]) . This program, focused on aging issues, will enhance Tatyana's reporting and deepen her understanding of how housing impacts health as we age. Congratulations to Tatyana on this achievement! Her continued growth and contributions will undoubtedly flourish through the Age Boom Academy.

Earlier this year, we launched a new reporting beat ([link removed]) focused exclusively on the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). We’ve seen how our coverage can make a difference. For instance, when we previously wrote about the plight of a woman in a shelter who’d been waiting more than 10 months ([link removed]) to move into the NYCHA apartment she’d been approved for, she received the keys to her new home the very next day. This demonstrates the real-world impact of journalism, and we’ve continued to report on the mounting vacancies in public housing in the months since.

To bridge the news and information gap in the country’s largest public housing community, we’re launching a NYCHA Reporting Fellowship that will allow us to continue and further expand our coverage of this important beat. Through rigorous reporting, we will amplify the voices of NYCHA residents, shed light on the policies that affect their quality of life, and hold decision-makers accountable for their actions.

As a nonprofit newsroom, we invite you to be part of this journey by supporting the NYCHA Reporting Fellowship. Please donate today ([link removed]) to help us launch this vital Fellowship. Your contribution will empower impactful journalism that drives positive change and advocates for a better future for NYCHA residents.
