John,

Like many of you, I’m in the process of sending my kids back to school.

It’s an exciting time, full of new beginnings and opportunities. I’m hoping all our kids have a great year – learning, growing, and building community.

But as a parent in America, sending my kids to school – in a country where school shootings continue to rise – is terrifying, too.

It’s not your imagination, it IS getting worse. So far in 2023, 1,049 children have been killed due to gun violence in America. There have been over 200 K-12 school shootings according to the K-12 Shooting Database – and that’s WITH a Summer break where school was not in session.

If current trends continue, we will easily outpace last year’s record for school shootings.

A screenshot of a graph showing the number of school shootings from 1966 to present day, with a steady increase every year since 2016 and a massive spike in the last 3 years.

And the reality is, it will keep getting worse – because lawmakers like my opponent refuse to address this issue and save our kids’ lives.

America is crying out for control on deadly weapons that are devastating communities and killing our kids, and Republicans across the country refuse to take action.

Columbine should have been enough, but it wasn’t. Sandy Hook wasn’t enough. Parkland wasn’t enough. Uvalde wasn’t enough. Covenant School wasn’t enough.

When will it finally be ENOUGH?

I think we know the answer. Republican politicians who care more about NRA blood money than they do for the safety of our children have got to go.

I’m running to unseat Mike Simpson, who has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations from the gun lobby. He voted AGAINST the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act last year, which was the most comprehensive gun control bill Congress has ever seen.

I don’t want to be scared to send my kids into a classroom. You shouldn’t be either.

If you can, please contribute to my campaign today. I’m working to build a strong Democratic majority in Congress that can enact real gun reform that will make a difference.

The toll of school shootings goes far beyond the grim body count we’ve come to expect in the news.

It’s the kids who survive the shooting and live the rest of their lives wondering why they lived and their friends didn’t.

It’s the kids who have to rehearse terrifying school shooter drills that are far more realistic than the fire drills of our youth.

It’s the teachers who have to go to work every day wondering if today is the day they will put their bodies on the line to protect their students – our children.

It’s the parents who have to bury their children and carry that grief the rest of their days – and the parents like me (and many of you) who worry if our kids will make it home safe every day.

We don’t have to live this way. We cannot continue to live this way. It’s past time we elect leaders who will make the choice to ACT on gun safety.

Together, we can build a country that protects us and protects our children.

Onward,

David Roth

David Roth is a single, gay dad running for Idaho’s Second Congressional District. We’re going up against a GOP incumbent who has been in this seat for almost 25 years. It’s time for change in Idaho, and our grassroots campaign is building on the momentum that began in David’s race for U.S. Senate last cycle. The GOP is not planning to defend this seat, so we plan to take it from them and help Democrats retake the House majority next year. We’d love your support to build a solid campaign to bring progress to Idaho and the country.
