Dear  John,

Earlier this month, state and federal officials in Louisiana broke ground on the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion.

Cut off from the river by levees for a century, Louisiana’s Barataria Basin has experienced some of the highest rates of land loss on the planet.

This project will harness the natural power of the Mississippi River, restoring the health of the ecosystem. The project will build and maintain thousands of acres to buffer our region from more intense hurricanes and sea level rise.

As the single largest ecosystem restoration project in U.S. history, the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion will reconnect the Mississippi River to adjacent wetlands along the river’s west bank in Plaquemines Parish. The project will build and fortify tens of thousands of acres of land in the Barataria Basin, which is experiencing one of the highest rates of land loss on the planet.

Join us in thanking Gov. John Bel Edwards and all parties involved in advancing this vital restoration project.
