Have you heard of that classic icebreaker called “Two truths and a lie”? Well, here are mine:
Truth: I’ve got more GOP challengers than any other incumbent Senator in the country this cycle.
There are nine GOP candidates who are running for the chance to unseat me. That’s nine Republicans who see the way Virginia started trending in 2021 and, with the deep pockets of the Republican establishment behind them, believe they can beat me.
Truth: The experts at Morning Consult have called me a “vulnerable” incumbent to watch in 2024.
Like the Republicans who are racing to run against me, Morning Consult thinks I’m vulnerable next November because of the GOP’s statewide victories in 2021 when they flipped all three top state offices. Plus, national Republican megadonors have made it clear they’re prepared to dump millions of dollars into the race to flip Virginia into a solidly red state.
Lie: Virginia is a blue state through and through — a state that Democrats don’t need to worry about.
It’s this exact complacency that led to those painful losses in 2021 — and we’re all feeling the impacts of Republican control over Virginia.
It’s crystal clear that our Commonwealth remains a true battleground state and one that we absolutely cannot afford to lose.
