Hi, it’s Marc Elias. I’m proud to be one of the top attorneys in the fight to defend our democracy against Republicans’ far-right agenda.

The fight for our democracy is an ongoing battle, and state legislatures are our last line of defense. That’s why I’m reaching out to you today, on behalf of my friends at the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, to ask you to donate $7 to elect Democrats to state legislatures who will stand up to Republicans’ anti-democratic attacks. Can I count on your support today?

Republicans have written the rules in their favor for far too long, drawing maps that encourage extreme partisan gerrymandering and building barriers to the ballot box to preserve their majorities. Electing Democrats to our state legislatures is critical to stopping them:

• In Wisconsin, Republicans have used their power in the legislature to rig the maps. Earlier this month, voters filed a petition in the WI Supreme Court challenging the state’s partisan maps. With a new liberal majority on the court, Democrats could secure fair maps and finally build power.
• In North Carolina, Republicans are using their veto-proof supermajority to pass extreme voter suppression bills – creating stricter requirements for mail-in ballots and adding administrative burden for election officials. But flipping just one GOP-held seat would break their supermajority.

We have the opportunity to defeat Republicans’ decades-long advantage in states like Wisconsin and North Carolina. By electing Democrats in these states and beyond, we can stand up to the GOP’s right-wing, anti-democratic agenda.

This is no small task – it’ll take time, funding, coordination, and grassroots support through and beyond Election Day. That’s why I’m counting on you to step up and own a piece of this fight.
