Friend,

Though we’ll continue fighting against Republicans’ plan to send millions of taxpayer dollars to unaccountable private schools once we’re back in session this fall, I wanted to take a moment to highlight some good news for our public schools that you may have missed!

This month, Governor Shapiro officially extended Pennsylvania’s universal school breakfast program for the 2023-24 school year. Now, every public school student — regardless of their income — can start the day with the nutrition they need to be successful in the classroom.

But that’s not all. Building on the free school breakfast program I helped create last year with former Governor Wolf, I’ve officially introduced SB 180 — the No Student Should Go Hungry universal school meal bill.

Not only would this bill provide free breakfast and lunch to eligible public school students — it would completely eliminate school lunch debt so families can have a fresh start.

Kids can’t learn when they’re hungry, and they shouldn’t have to go into debt just to get a warm meal. This bill would eliminate both sides of the equation to make food security a cornerstone, not just an amenity, of our public schools.

This fall, I’ll need support from the ground to push my bill forward, so I’m counting on you, friend. Will you help me pass a universal school meal program for our students and make a $25 donation to fuel my fight?

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.

While our public schools continue battling attacks from Harrisburg Republicans, I’m proud we secured this win for our students — and ready to keep moving the needle for our public education system.

Together,

Lindsey Williams
