Friends,

On this day 88 years ago, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law – establishing one of the most popular public programs in American history.

This cornerstone of American society has lifted tens of millions of people out of poverty, providing our seniors with the means to live out their golden years in retirement. Social Security is more than just a retirement program; it is a promise we make to our fellow citizens and a testament to our values as Americans to care for the most vulnerable among us.

But today, extremists in the Republican Party have not only been working to gut this cherished program – they’ve been attacking virtually every other program that embodies the same values as Social Security.

Under the House GOP’s appropriations bill, Republicans are proposing devastating cuts to food assistance programs for women and children, including:

*
56%
cut
for
fruit
and
vegetable
budgets
for
kids
*
70%
slashed
for
pregnant
and
postpartum
women
*
69%
taken
away
from
breastfeeding
moms

This budget does not reflect what America is about, friends. The GOP’s priorities fly directly in the face of what President Roosevelt sought to achieve by passing the Social Security Act: “the security of the men, women, and children of the Nation against certain hazards and vicissitudes of life.”

That’s exactly what my Democratic colleagues and I have been striving for. Whether it’s working to increase access to health care, lowering the costs of prescription drugs, or securing better wages and benefits for working families, we’re fighting to continue FDR’s legacy.

With 2024 just around the corner, taking back the House will be critical in our mission to continue that legacy. If you want to help us continue building the America FDR fought for, please consider making a contribution today. [[link removed]]
