News from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald

Thank you for reading my newsletter. Here's a summary of last week:

Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald

Good morning!

I hope everyone is enjoying the end of their summer. It’s been great to be back in SE Wisconsin, especially with a successful line up of office hours last week across the district.

While things are quieter on Capitol Hill with Members out, rest assured House Republicans are still hard at work, particularly in holding the Biden Family accountable. The House Oversight Committee and the House Judiciary Committee have been investigating Hunter Biden, the Biden family, and the alleged payments they’ve received from foreign countries. Watch my interview here on Fox Business where I spoke about the latest on the investigations.

I’ve be traveling around the district throughout the month to pay visits to businesses and communities — it’s been great to see many of you around, and for those I haven’t seen yet, I hope to see you soon!

Have a great week!

- Scott

Office Hours in the District

One of the great parts about August recess is having the opportunity and time to travel across the entire district to check-in on communities and businesses. I’ve been doing exactly that: last week I stopped by Johnson Creek, Dousman, and Kewaskum to host office hours for anyone who had questions or wanted to talk about the latest legislative activity happening in Washington, D.C.

I had an opportunity to speak with community members about rail safety, the national debt limit, and election integrity, among many other issues.

I always appreciate the opportunity to hear about the issues most important you—so thank you to all who stopped by!

Penned a Column on Creating a Fairer Federal Trade Commission

In our rapidly evolving marketplace, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) plays a pivotal role in safeguarding consumers' interests and promoting fair competition. However, as our economic landscape has continued to shift, so too has our political environment. Ever since Lina Kahn was appointed as Chair of the commission in 2021, at the direction of President Biden, the agency has taken a turn for the worse.

The agency has become little more than an ultra-partisan body, ignoring dissenting voices, defying the rule of law and disregarding congressionally imposed limits on agency jurisdiction in favor of advancing radical left policies. While there is a mountain of work that must be undertaken to reform the agency, I’ve proposed a bill that I believe will chart us on a course for a fairer and more balanced FTC.

The need for a more accountable FTC is apparent now more than ever. My proposal, the Fair and Balanced FTC Act, would prohibit the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) from acting unless there is at least one Commissioner serving from a different party than the Chair. This would incentivize the President to nominate and confirm Commissioners to ensure a functioning body includes minority Commissioners to provide feedback and dissent on harmful FTC actions.

Met with the Bruno Team

I was grateful to have an opportunity to check-in with the team at Bruno Independent Living Aids—a family owned, veteran-founded small business based in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.

For over 35 years, Bruno has engineered and manufactured specialty products serving seniors and disabled veterans including stair lifts, mobility scooters, and power chair lifts.

Bruno provides a number these products to the VA for the purposes of providing mobility assistance to disabled veterans. One of Bruno’s mobility devices, the “Chariot”, is a unique vehicle lift designed to transport heavy mobility devices (e.g., scooters, wheelchairs) without the need for a large SUV. I was great to learn more about the teams revolutionary equipment that serves a very important community: our veterans.

Tour of John Deere West Campus

John Deere’s Horicon Works facility has been in operation for more than 100 years, so I was very excited to visit the campus last week to see what the team is working on!

The factory is more than 1.2 million square-feet and employs more than 1,100 people.

The Horicon Works facility primarily manufactures lawn equipment and small tractors but, in 2016 completed a $42.9 million, 388,000 square foot expansion to begin manufacture of the Gator recreational utility vehicle. A lot of important work being done here in the district!

A special thanks to the team at John Deere for hosting me.
