FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 118, Issue #28 Dear Friends/Amigos, August recess is in full swing, and I am continuing to meet with my constituents across District 27 to hear about their concerns. I want to remind all of my constituents that if you're looking to book a tour of the Capitol, renew your passport, or share your opinion with me, my staff and I are always here to serve! It is an honor to serve you in Congress, and please continue to call my office or visit my website to share your thoughts with me. As always, I invite you to connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, to get the latest from Washington and from across our district. Sincerely/Atentamente, María Elvira Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) JUSTICE FOR FERNANDO VILLAVICENCIO This week, the Ecuadorian community of District 27 and I were shocked by the news that anti-corruption candidate Fernando Villavicencio was murdered in cold blood by hitmen while leaving an event in Quito. I want to wish my deepest condolences to his wife, Veronica, and his five children. Read my full statement with leadership of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee here and below: “We are outraged and deeply saddened by the assassination of Ecuadorian presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio. As a journalist, Villavicencio was one of Ecuador’s most critical voices against corruption and criminality. We stand with the people of Ecuador in this time of mourning and vow to support a full investigation and prosecution of this senseless act of violence.” MOMENTUM FOR MY DIGNITY ACT IS GROWING! The Dignity Act is gaining momentum not just in Congress, but from critical stakeholders who understand the true cost of a broken immigration system. Check out these remarks from leaders in the private sector and faith-based communities who are joining me in calling for a compassionate overhaul of America's immigration system. I also took to social media to share a game from the Cato Institute that shows step-by-step just how difficult it is to immigrate legally to the United States, even for extremely highly-skilled immigrants. Play the game here! FLORIDA-27 CASEWORK TESTIMONIALS! My office is one of the best in Congress for helping our constituents with the federal casework they need.
