President Biden signed the historic Inflation Reduction Act last August, and it’s benefiting communities across America: from investments in clean energy to addressing domestic energy security, this legislation is an essential step towards economic prosperity for all.
And President Biden and I are excited to see that prosperity spread across the country -- but we also know that economic growth and access to health care go hand in hand.
As a public health nurse, I saw firsthand the importance of making health care more accessible for all. Because when we take care of our communities and ensure they have the tools to look after their health, we can band together to focus on the bigger picture.
That’s why I’m proud that the IRA includes my signature legislation to lower the cost of health care premiums, along with crucial provisions that cap insulin costs for seniors on Medicare at $35 a month. It allows Medicare to meaningfully negotiate drug prices, with the number of drugs covered steadily increasing. Over the next few years, we’ll see Medicare benefits substantially expand to include free vaccines and an out-of-pocket cost cap of $2,000.
But this is just the beginning. President Biden has approached this work with determination and tenacity -- preparing our country for the industries of the future, with historic investments in infrastructure, clean energy, domestic manufacturing, and research and innovation -- so that every American has a chance to benefit.
