Congressman Nehls Visits with Local Leaders Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in TX-22 Rep. Nehls Speaks at Bay City Chamber Luncheon This week, I had the opportunity to meet with the Bay City Chamber to talk about the work I've been doing in Congress. In the first 7 months of the 118th Congress, I've been hard at work fighting for the people of the 22nd Congressional District of Texas. I had the chance to talk about crucial pieces of legislation that the United States House of Representatives have passed so far, including H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023, which reinstates successful Trump-era border policies and is the strongest piece of border legislation in short memory. I was also able to talk about my work on the House Judiciary Committee and my work on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee as the Chairman of the Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee and the passage of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization. I will continue to fight for TX-22! Rep. Troy E. Nehls Stops by Fuzzy's Pizza This week, I met with some great folks at Fuzzy’s Pizza in Katy, Texas. One of my favorite parts of representing you in Congress is being able to meet and spend time with the folks of TX-22. I enjoyed talking about what's been going on in Washington, D.C. with everyone who came out. If you haven't already, make sure to head over to Fuzzy's Pizza for some good family fun and wonderful pizza. It feels good to be back in TX-22! Rep. Nehls Speaks at Alvin-Manvel Chamber Luncheon I had the chance to fill in the Alvin-Manvel Chamber on my work in Washington, D.C. I told them about what Congress is doing to secure our nation’s border, my work on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the importance of America First policies, and the looming government funding deadline that Congress must address by the end of September. Thank you for having me! TX-22 District Photography Contest Submissions Are Now Open I am holding a photography contest for all constituents of TX-22! I encourage everyone to submit pictures from across the 22nd Congressional District of Texas highlighting the unique landscapes and landmarks found in TX-22. To enter the contest, please provide your contact information and email and submit two high-resolution photographs that represent TX-22 well. Portraits will not be accepted. The top 10 photos will be selected to be displayed in my new district office in Fulshear, Texas. Submissions to the contest will close Thursday, August 31, 2023. Please submit your images HERE. Congressional Youth Academy Applications Are Now Open My office invites all high school students in the 22nd District of Texas to apply for the 2023 Congressional Youth Academy. This academy will have guest speakers from various levels of government to avail students of the pivotal role of lawmakers, experts, and citizens in a representative democracy. The top 50 applicants will receive an intimate and in-depth understanding of the role of our nation’s lawmakers and be asked to provide fresh ideas from the council’s mock Congress. This program is a one-day event intended to bolster student experience and enhance resumes. To allow more students to apply to the Congressional Youth Academy, the date to submit a completed application has been moved to September 23, 2023. The Congressional Youth Academy will now be held on October 21, 2023. More details will be released upon acceptance to the program. The checklist and application can be found on my website. If you have any questions, please call my district office at (346) 762-6600. Department of State: Update on Passport Processing Times The Department of State is reporting passport processing times can be up to 10-13 weeks for routine processing and 7-9 weeks for expedited processing. These times do not include mail delivery service estimates. My team would be happy to assist you with your passport issues. If you are planning on traveling internationally soon, please reach out to my district office, (346) 762-6600, at least two weeks in advance of your travel date to allow my casework team optimal time to communicate with Passport Agencies. Service Academy Nominations Are Now Open My office is now accepting Service Academy Nominations. One of the privileges of serving in the United States House of Representatives is the opportunity to nominate outstanding young people from the 22nd Congressional District of Texas to be considered for appointment to our nation’s service academies. Admission to a service academy is a two-tiered process. First, the candidate must meet the minimum standards set by the individual academy. Second, the candidate must complete the congressional application by October 6, 2023, to be considered for an interview in our office with the nomination review board. Please note, the ultimate selection of appointees rests solely with academy officials and is based on their competitive evaluation of all nominees. The checklist and application can be found on my website. If you have any questions, please email [email protected] or call my district office at (346) 762-6600.
