Dear John,

There is no better time in Minnesota than August – so I hope you have all been able to enjoy some time outside with friends and family this week.

The most important job of any elected official is to listen to their constituents, so they can pursue the policies and efforts that will actually make a difference in the lives of Minnesotans.

So every month, I hold a town hall to hear directly from you about what’s working for the Second District – and what’s not. On Monday, I held my August Town Hall!

It was great to hear from so many of you. I answered questions on everything from the 2023 Farm Bill to what we can do to lower the cost of insulin for everyone in the United States.

I want to thank Jeanne Massey from FairVote Minnesota who joined our town hall for a robust discussion on the ways we can reform Washington. We talked about ranked choice voting, the path to finally banning Members of Congress from trading stocks and how to bring a little more civility to Washington.

I know the summer can be a busy time of the year – so I appreciate that so many of you took the time to join us. I’ll be bringing your thoughts and ideas with me when I go back to Washington in just a few weeks!

Here's what else I was up to this week:

Preparing for the upcoming school year
The countdown for the next school year is officially on! Today, I had the opportunity to attend the Burnsville Chamber of Commerce’s Back to School Event with District 191.

Great to hear District 191 Superintendent Theresa Battle discuss the upcoming school year in her State of the District Address!

Celebrating the official opening of the Concord Street corridor
After many years of planning and building, we finally got the chance to cut the ribbon and celebrate the opening of the Concord Street corridor in South St. Paul! This was the result of a lot of hard work and partnerships across local, state and federal government – and I’ve gotta say, it’s looking pretty good!

Connecting with Minnesota’s small business owners
On Tuesday, I joined the Lakeville Chamber of Commerce to hear what Lakeville businesses need and discuss how we can continue to work together to support MN-02’s economy.

Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:

Well, I have an extra special behind-the-scenes moment this week – and an extra special someone to introduce to you today! My (little) sister recently had her first baby – Ellie – and I was able to meet her last weekend. My mom – after six grandsons in our family – is especially excited to welcome the first baby granddaughter to the family.

Puppies and babies (and a pretty amazing almost two-year-old grandson) are bringing a lot of joy to our family this summer.

Well, that’s it for me this week! Have a great weekend – and talk soon!

Until next time,
