Each year since our Atlanta DSA chapter formed in 2006–except for a two-year pandemic gap–we have invited Atlanta’s progressive community to our Douglass-Debs awards dinner, to help us honor outstanding role models and leaders, celebrate our accomplishments during the previous year, and enjoy an evening of comradeship. Last year’s dinner resumed this tradition with great success.

In keeping with our tribute to organized labor, we will host the 2023 Douglass-Debs Dinner in the IBEW Hall Auditorium at 153 Richardson Street SW in downtown Atlanta on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

This year, we plan to honor the contributions of:

  • The Feminist Women’s Health Center, an abortion clinic fighting to keep its doors open while Georgia’s six-week ban remains in place
  • WRFG-FM, Atlanta’s progressive noncommercial community radio station, which is celebrating its 50th year on the air.

The dinner is a great opportunity to meet with other community activists and hear from inspiring speakers. Ticket sales and patron contributions will raise funds for our coalition partners, local community organizing, and labor union strike support. Reduced-cost tickets will be available for students and other low-income comrades. For more information contact us at [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you there!

✊ Support The Reproductive Freedom Act! ✊

Atlanta DSA has officially joined Amplify Georgia’s Reproductive Freedom Act campaign. As a coalition member, we’ll continue our work to spread awareness and garner support from citizens and legislators for the RFA, which enshrines fundamental protections for reproductive freedom into Georgia law, repeals medically unnecessary and harmful abortion restrictions, and expands access to abortion care. If you haven’t already, please sign a petition of support for the RFA, here. To learn more about the Reproductive Freedom Act, read our article in the Red Clay Comrade, and be on the lookout for future actions around our work with the RFA Campaign.

📕Book Club!📕

Atlanta DSA's Book Club explores a range of topics in socialist theory. In our biweekly meetings, we discuss big picture ideas about history, economics, and politics. This week we are reading "The Master’s Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master’s House" from Audre Lorde's Sister Outsider. Join us Thursday August 10th at 7 PM to join in the conversation. Hope to see you there!

📦✊Stand with Rank-and-File UPS Teamsters!✊📦

On Tuesday July 25th, the Teamsters national negotiating committee announced a tentative agreement with UPS, subject to a vote of its membership which will begin August 3 and last until August 22.

DSA stands in unflinching solidarity with the 350,000 UPS Teamsters whose tireless militancy gave their negotiating committee strong leverage throughout this fight.
