John — Next week, Tennessee voters will decide the state's future of gun safety action, and the stakes are high. This is the first election since a school massacre took place at The Covenant School, killing three 9-year-old children and three adults in Nashville. Following the tragedy, March For Our Lives organized direct actions alongside our coalition partners inside the state capitol to demand Tennessee lawmakers act urgently to pass bold gun safety legislation. Reps. Justin Jones and Justin Pearson stood by us in an act of solidarity. Instead of working to pass an assault weapons ban or safe storage law, TN House Republicans expelled them for simply joining our action. It was nothing more than a racist power grab to silence their voices. Now, both Jones and Pearson are up for re-election, and in just three weeks TN will hold a special session about gun violence prevention. Momentum for change continues to grow in TN and across the country. We have to continue the fight in every corner of the country, no matter what we’re up against.
Despite the gun lobby’s attacks, Rep. Jones and Pearson never wavered in their commitment to the gun violence prevention movement. They represent the future of this movement and country, and we’re grateful for their leadership and resolve.
