Well, this morning we did it - we occupied the top two stories for Axios media - Nashville.
Why? Because the downtown crowd is in disarray and the rumors and the spin-machine of the PR-opoly is working on overdrive. All they have left to fight us with is fear-mongering and rumor-pushing.
It’s a non-partisan race, right? Why does that mean we can’t elect a common-sense Republican? Why does nonpartisan mean you have to be a Democrat?
I reject that premise.
I’m not here to defend the downtown crowd or the status quo that has gotten us to a place where only a quarter of our kids read on grade level, where we struggle to recruit officers troubled by a culture that says it is ok to look the other way on crime in our city, and where we have more debt than the entire state of Tennessee.
I’m not running to defend that. I’m running to fix that.
If you want more of the same - vote for ANYONE but me. If you want more of the same, believe them, that is what they love most.
I’ll tell you - the entire Nashville PR-opoly tried to stop me when I started the petition to Save Ft. Negley. I was summoned by one of their many lawyers and told “it would be really good for my husband’s career if I joined them, instead of continuing the petition.”
Guess what - we never, ever stopped. And we won. Because people see through the lies. They see through the fear mongering. They see the truth.
Nashville is NOT for sale. I am not for sale. Our family has been here since the earliest settlers. The tallest point in the county is named for my great-grandfather, Ganier Ridge at Radnor Lake - not because he had money, but because he had vision and courage to do what was right to protect that land from being sold to build 300 houses.
As Mayor we will, everyday, do the work of our people - our city - and we will, everyday - ask if our children can read, if our streets are safe, and if we are keeping our taxpayers - not special interests - at the center of every budget decision.
Democrats, Republicans, Independents - all - we know that if we keep electing the same people, we cannot expect a different result.
