Dear Georgian,

Pharmacists play a critical role in providing accessible care to rural Americans, especially seniors. During COVID-19, pharmacists were able to administer tests for COVID-19 and other common respiratory illnesses such as the flu and strep throat.

Last week, I cosponsored H.R. 1770, the Equitable Community Access to Pharmacist Services Act, to continue Medicare coverage of pharmacist-administered tests and ensure that seniors maintain access to essential pharmacist services.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on Twitter.

Sincerely,

Honoring the Life of Deputy Tyee Browne

Last week, I spoke on the House Floor to honor the life of Crisp County Sheriff's Deputy Tyee Browne, who lost his life in the line of duty on July 10th at the age of 26.

Deputy Browne was a graduate of Mary Persons High School in Monroe County, and served the Crisp County community with the Sheriff's Department for less than a year before he was shot and killed during a traffic stop of a stolen vehicle.

Before serving Crisp County, he served our nation in the Army National Guard and dedicated his life to protecting others. His service is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices our law enforcement officers make daily to keep our communities safe.

To the family of Deputy Tyee Browne, I offer my deep condolences on behalf of Georgia's Eighth District. I also thank Sheriff Billy Hancock and the Crisp County Sheriff's Department for their continued dedication to protecting our district.

Meeting with Georgia FFA

I met with the Georgia FFA State Officer team as they began their year of service. The Georgia FFA Association is the third largest state association in the country, with more than 80,000 student members. I enjoyed visiting with these future leaders of the agriculture industry as we discussed how we can best serve agriculture in DC.

Voting for Legislation that Supports GA Military

On Thursday, I voted in favor of the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, which provides funding for military construction, veterans affairs, and related agencies. This legislation passed the House by a vote of 218-211.

This bill fully funds veterans’ health care and veterans’ benefits and VA programs while reducing overall spending. It not only funds our servicemembers who have served but also provides critical funding for quality-of-life provisions for our active members and their families.

Specifically to the state of Georgia, this bill appropriates $22 million for a new Security Forces Facility at Dobbins Air Reserve Base, $35 million for phase one of the Battle Management Combined Operations Complex at Robins Air Force Base, and $80 million for phase one of the Cyber Instructional Facility at Fort Gordon.

Washington Examiner | House passes military appropriations bill despite GOP standoff

"The House narrowly advanced its annual military construction appropriations bill on Thursday, ending a weeklong standoff between GOP leadership and hard-line conservatives who initially threatened to tank the legislation unless deep spending cuts were made.

The Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act passed the House with a 218-211 vote, allowing the House to make some headway on spending legislation before lawmakers are set to leave for a six-week recess later Thursday. The bill passed largely along party lines after all Democrats voted against the measure. Only two Republicans opposed the bill: Reps. Tim Burchett (R-TN) and Ken Buck (R-CO)."
