June conference to reserve
your lobbying spot on Hill

Registration is now open for CCL’s conference and lobby day (June 7-9). For many of our volunteers, the experience is life-changing. They discover that their voices can actually be heard in Washington and make a difference.

In a video about last year’s lobbying (click image above to watch), one of our volunteers commented about a meeting she was in:  “I just had a very successful lobby meeting. It feels incredible." Especially this year, we could all use some of that feeling. Even in the midst of an election year, we can connect with our fellow Americans on the Hill, organize in our communities back home, and bring people together around the urgent issue of climate change.

With a limited number of lobbying slots available, it’s best not to wait if you plan to join the teams going to the Hill. Scholarships are available to assist people of color and conservatives to come to the conference.

Other news this week:

Another cosponsor for H.R. 763: Last week, Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) became the 79th House member to sign on to the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. You can express your appreciation by retweeting or commenting on CCL’s Twitter post.

Deadline for Snowman Protest: If you’re hoping for a shot at the $500 first prize in CCL’s Snowman Protest contest, you’ll need to post your photos by Feb. 23. Check out the entries by browsing the #SnowmanProtest hashtag on Instagram.

Connecting with Jeff Bezos: Amazon founder and billionaire Jeff Bezos announced this week he will donate $10 billion to fight climate change, with much of that money going to NGOs. CCL is looking for ways to get on his radar. Read more.

Chapter organizing: State tours with Elli Sparks

Our director of field development, Elli Sparks (center in photo above), loves getting out in the field to visit with and train our volunteers. Last year, she visited Louisiana, Iowa and Ohio.

This year, she’s heading to Florida for all of March and the first week of April to help develop our chapters in the Sunshine State, from Pensacola all the way down to Key West.

Elli will lead the Five Levers Organizing Workshop she developed during the Iowa and Ohio tours. The workshop is designed to help groups create committees and distribute leadership among the volunteers. She’ll also be leading the Climate Advocate Training and joining volunteers on trips, visits, and meetings.

During her tour, CCL volunteers will host Elli in their homes, which gives her the opportunity to make deeper connections with our members.  Thank you to every generous host!

If your chapter would like a Five Levers Organizing Workshop, tell your state coordinator. Other trainers are available to lead this workshop, and we’d love to help you create long lasting internal strength and structure in your chapter.

CCL volunteers are regularly activating the “five levers” of political will in their communities. To talk with other CCLers about their chapter organizing and get advice or ideas for your own, head to the “Chapter organizing” forum on CCL Community.
