We should all be paying close attention to what's happening in Iowa right now:
- The Iowa governor signed an abortion ban into law a couple weeks ago that is now making its way through the courts. (It's not currently in effect thanks to a judge's order.)
- Would-be Republican nominees for president like Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, and Mike Pence are trying to build support among Iowa Republicans, the governor, and national anti-abortion groups. So, they are promoting more and more extremist stances on abortion bans.
The politics of this single state are pushing the debate on abortion bans even further to the right, threatening to cause more harm and block more people from access to critical abortion care.
