Our nation has digressed into a crime-ridden state under liberal leadership at various levels of government. Open border policies at the national level allow a stream of illegal aliens, criminals, and drugs to infiltrate our country. Various cities have defunded our police and hamstrung our law enforcement officers so severely that crime runs rampant in their streets — our neighbor Memphis being one of those.

And at the local level, progressive, Democrat DA’s refuse to prosecute violent criminals, thieves and drug offenders. This unprecedented leniency toward criminals is threatening the safety and security of our communities, Mississippi, and our great nation. Tragically, it is allowing the darkest of crimes to grow—like child sex trafficking.

In 2021, Mississippi had the second-highest rate of human trafficking cases in the nation. That was 175 percent higher than the national average that year. This horrific industry runs rampant across the globe, but this high propensity makes it a state and local issue for us here at home. A new film released recently called “Sound of Freedom” focuses on the magnitude of child sex trafficking in the United States and around the world. The movie highlights the horrors of this trade and emphasizes the work that needs to be done to shut down this modern slavery industry.

While much is being done here in Mississippi to target human traffickers and stop the trade, more, larger-scale change needs to happen to keep children and families safe. A positive next step would be ousting liberal, progressive leaders at every level of government, and electing tough on crime conservatives whose records and priorities demonstrates a zero-tolerance rule against criminals of every kind — from drug dealers to serious, hardened criminals like child sex traffickers. Neglected priorities and liberal policies at the national level implores that we elect those among us who will not stand for threats, crime, or violence of any kind. If we want a local government that protects local people, we must elect conservatives who share our values.

As District Attorney, I will make human trafficking and stopping these criminals a priority by working together with Attorney General Lynn Fitch, our next sheriff, and the Department of Public Safety to protect our children from sexual predators. Nothing is more important than our children.
