John,
Yesterday, a mass of seniors descended on Capitol Hill to demand action to get private insurance companies out of Medicare. After a day of meeting with their representatives, a few joined us for a press conference that was carried on local news around the country.1
Yesterday was only the beginning. This Sunday is Medicare’s birthday, and we’re throwing a big party in front of the White House, celebrating 58 years of guaranteed health insurance for retirees.
Study after study has shown that when private insurance gets its hands on Medicare, taxpayers pay more for worse care.2 But greedy corporations are trying to throw the doors open for a complete takeover of Medicare, and until recently no one was fighting back. We are going to stop Medicare privatization!
Check out a few pictures from yesterday, then chip in $7 to keep up our momentum against Medicare privatization!
You can watch the entire event on our Facebook page, with remarks from Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Reps. Rosa DeLauro, Lloyd Doggett, Barbara Lee, Ro Khanna, Mark Pocan, and Katie Porter, patients and families sharing their personal stories, and also me. It was a joyous celebration of Medicare’s promise of universal care, and an enraging reminder of how much work we have to do.
Together, we will reclaim Medicare from private insurance corporations that get between patients and their doctors, delaying and denying care!
In solidarity,
Alex Lawson Social Security Works
